Which Type of Flinders Ranges Accommodation is Best Suited to Your Outback Escape?

The Flinders Ranges region of South Australia offers the perfect style of accommodation for every traveler. So which is the perfect Flinders Ranges accommodation for you?

It really depends on your budget, method of transport, location and the extent in which you wish to connect to the landscape.

The first option is to simply camp. This, of course, is the cheapest option and it also gives you the greatest flexibility in terms of location.

There are many, many scenic areas in the Flinders Ranges National Park in particular to pitch a tent. These include Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorge and the Aroona Valley, but this is only scratching the surface.

The second option is to tow a caravan behind you. This is equally as cheap and flexible as camping with the added advantage of having some of the comforts of home like running water and electricity. Not all roads are passable by conventional caravans but if you have an off road version there shouldn’t be a problem.

If you prefer to stay in a proper bricks and mortar dwelling, then there is a range of motel and hotel style accommodation available. A word of warning – these can be booked out in the high season as the ratio of available units to travelers is lower in the Flinders due to its remoteness. Book in advance by 6-12 months at least if possible.

Motel rooms offer 3 star quality and have most of the basic essentials like showers, toilets, refrigerators and television. Unfortunately the TV only picks up about 2 or 3 channels at best but it is better than nothing!

The pick of the Flinders Ranges accommodation however has to be the eco-villas offered at Rawnsley Park Station. These are superb, modern houses built with the environment in mind. They have all of the modern conveniences of home and are nestled in the rugged mountains near Wilpena Pound with spectacular views out each window.
