Tourist Visas Embassies and consulates

Kenya has diplomatic representation in many countries. Where there is no Kenyan embassy or high commission, visas can be obtained from the British embassy or high commission.

Its important to understand what your own embassy-the embassy of the country of which you are a citizen-can and cant do to help you if you get into trouble. Generally speaking, it won’t be much help in emergencies if the trouble you’re in is remotely your own fault. Remember that you are bound by the laws of the country you are in. Your embassy will not be sympathetic if you end up in jail after committing a crime locally, even if such actions are legal in your own country.

In genuine emergencies you might get some assistance, but only if other channels have been exhausted. For example, if you need to get home urgently, a free ticket home is exceedingly unlikely-the embassy would expect you to have some insurance. If all your money and documents are stolen, the embassy might assist with getting anew passport, but loan for onward travel is out of the question.

Kenyan embassies and consulates in Your Country

AUSTRALIA: Tel, 02-62474788 kenrep@dynamite.com.au QBE Bldg, 33-35 Ainslie Ave, Canberra, ACT 2601

AUSTRIA: Tel, 01-7123919; kenyarep-vienna@aon.at

Neulinggasse 29/8, 1030 Vienna

CANADA: 613-631773; [http://www.kenyahighcommision.ca] ; 415Laurier Ave, East Ottawa, Ontario, KIN 6R4

ETHIOPIA: Tel, 01-610033; kenya.embassy@telecom.net.et ;

Fikre Mariam Rd, P.o Box 3301, Addis Ababa

FRANCE: Tel, 01-56622525; kenparis@wanadoo.fr ;3rue

Freycinet,75116 Paris)

GERMANY: Tel,030-25922660; embassy-kenya.bn@wwmail.de; Markgrafenstr 63,10969 Berlin

INDIA: Tel, 011-26146537; [http://www.kenyamission-delhi.com;] 34 Paschimi Marg, Vasant Vihar, 10057 New Delhi)

ISRAEL: Tel,03-57546333; kenya04@ibm.net ;15Rehov

Abba Hillel Silver, Ramat Gan 52522, P.

You can travel the world for free by becoming an “Outside Agent” or “Group Travel Organizer” for travel agencies.

Travel agencies usually have a wide range of domestic and international tour packages available. These tours typically last from ten to fourteen days, with groups of about ten to thirty people for each tour. Travel agencies constantly need people to sign up for their tours and most heartily welcome any help they can get in recruiting new tourists for their services. When you put a travel group together for the agency you can receive a free (all expenses paid!) vacation.

You can visit travel agencies directly, or locate them through internet searches. Contract with them for a free trip in exchange for you securing a group of people to sign up for a tour with the agency. For example, for a cruise, you’ll need maybe 9 to 15 people to sign up with the agency for you to travel for free. Make sure you find out exactly how many people you need to sign up for the tour so you can travel for free. Also ask if the tour will cover your airfare or not, and get all details related to the tour. Dates, times, schedules, costs, food, accommodations, transportation, sight-seeing, etc. Ask the travel agent if he or she can supply you with brochures or flyers, with your name, phone number and email address, to hand out to potential sign-ups.

When putting a group together talk to friends, relatives and co-workers. Visit churches and organizations with your travel proposal. Post and handout your flyers to everyone you can. Send emails to everyone you know, and ask them to forward the message. Let all of the friends you have in social sites like FaceBook know about the trip. You may even consider placing small classified ads in newspapers for more leads. Write an article about the tour’s destination and offer it for free to newspapers, magazines, blogs and websites as long as they include your contact information.

Giving travel presentations is another great way to get people to sign up for the tour. Your church, retirement organizations, Veterans groups, Kiwis, American Legion and Rotary Club are all good places to give your presentation. Provide refreshments and have plenty of flyers on hand. Your home is another place where you could hold presentations. Invite family and friends, and ask them to invite their family and friends. You can speak about the tour, show a video, or have a travel agent that represents the agency give the presentation.

Once your group is organized collect deposits from each member as required from the agency. This ensures that the people are serious about going. Most deposits are refundable up to a certain date as prescribed by the agency, so little or no risk is involved for your group in paying deposits. Then make sure that each group member gets their travel vouchers and know the departure date, time and location.

You go with the tour group for free, and when you get back home you can do this all over again to have another all expenses paid vacation. Do this as often as you like to go anywhere in the world for free.

By: Thomas C Carroll

About the Author:

Just about anyone traveling to the land downunder will need Australia travel visa.

This might surprise some people, but the general rule is unless you have an Australian or New Zealand Passport you need a visa to enter Australia.

Travel visas are required for all visits including:

holidays business trips working holidays emigration

Visitors from UK are usually the most surprised that they need a visa. Even though Australia is still (2008) part of the Commonwealth, UK citizens require a visa for entry to Australia.

There is good news however, you do not necessarily have to seek out your local Australian Visa Office (usually the High Commission or Embassy) and attend in person. The new electronic visas or Electronic Travel Authorities (ETAs) are available to passport holders of ETA approved countries who meet the eligibility criteria.

These eVisas are fast, convenient and simple to apply for. You will need a current passport, credit card and access to the web.

Eligibility criteria for an ETA visas (eVisas) include:

You must have a current passport from an ETA approved country You must be in good health You must have NO criminal record You must apply for a visa outside Australia

Electronic visas are usually processed within 24 hours and are valid for 12 months from the date of issue with stays up to 3 months. The Australian govenment recommends that you apply for your visa before making travel arrangements.

If you are in a country other than your home country you should check with their immigration whether a stamp or label Australia travel visa is required at your point of departure. You will not be allowed to board your transport to Australia without a valid visa.

By: Annie R

About the Author:

ESTA is a web-based data collection system, initially launched by the Department of Homeland Security in August 2008, which determines the preliminary eligibility of visitors to travel “visa-free”, under the VWP, prior to traveling to the United States.

According to recent DHS data, more than 1.2 million ESTA applications have been received, and over 98% of applicants have been approved. DHS further states that will take a ‘reasonable approach’ to travelers who have not obtained an approved travel authorization via ESTA, and will continue an aggressive advertising and outreach campaign throughout 2009.

Travelers without an approved ESTA are advised, however, that they may be denied boarding, experience delayed processing, or be denied admission at a U.S. port of entry.

The citizens or nationals of the following countries are currently eligible to travel to the United States under the VWP: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Eight of these countries joined the VWP in 2008, and their citizens and nationals have been required to comply with an ESTA since their designation as VWP participants: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Malta.

There has been some degree of confusion as to when and how ESTA applies. In brief, ESTA only applies to foreign nationals (Non-U.S. citizens) who are eligible to travel to the United States under the terms and conditions of the Visa Waiver Program, without a Visa or Green Card, or other government-issued permission.

Any person who needs a visa or has a visa already does not need to complete the ESTA process prior to traveling to the United States. Essentially anyone who would complete a WHITE I-94 card at arrival in the U.S., does not participate in ESTA. On the flip side, anyone who would normally complete a GREEN I-94W card at arrival in the U.S. MUST now complete ESTA.

While the ESTA is geared to eventually phasing out paper I-94W cards altogether, it is CBP’s current advice and recommendation to complete BOTH, the ESTA online, AND the paper I-94W card for inspection. It is further recommended that the ESTA-traveler bring a paper printout of their ESTA application response in order to maintain a record of their ESTA application number.

The ESTA application Web site has been made available in several languages and helps to guide VWP travelers through the application process.

By: Steven A.

A visa generally refers to a formal endorsement which is endowed by a certain government on a person’s passport, and this denotes that the individual’s passport has been thoroughly checked and found valid by the country he or she wishes to visit. This also allows the bearer to legally travel to his or her destination. An entry visa indicates that the bearer has gotten official permission to enter a country as a visitor, but this does not however guarantee outright admission. The other major purpose of a visa is to allow a government to limit, as well as control, the entry of aliens into a country. Generally, there are two types of visas commonly issued, and these are the passport entry visa and the immigrant entry visa. The passport entry visa allows for the person to visit the country on a specified duration, while the immigrant visa is given to those who want to settle permanently in that country. So how should one get an Australian Visa?

Based on information posted on the Australian Government’s official web site, most visa applications are approved or denied in 30 seconds, but there will be times when the standard application process takes a bit longer to undertake. For starters, the most common Australian visa issued is the Electronic Travel Authority or ETA. This is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, and allows for multiple visits to Australia with up to three months for each visit. Applications for these are usually quick, and the applicant will know the result in a short span of time. In getting an ETA however, you first need to check if you’re qualified for this. Foremost, only passport-holding individuals from selected nations like the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada are allowed to apply for an ETA. You could check out the complete list of eligible countries from the Australian Government web site.

If ever you belong to any of the countries approved for this visa, you may apply online. Once you’re on the official government web site, click on the “Apply for ETA” button, and thoroughly read as well as accept the information stated. An ETA application has a A$20 application fee levied, but you could use your credit card to pay for this too. Next, provide all personal information required. Once you complete all necessary forms and provide the pertinent information, start waiting for approval. According to Australian visa experts, most applications made online are approved or denied in 30 seconds. However, if you encounter any delays, you may re-check your status every 12 hours, to verify your ETA application status.

For those who wish to do business Down Under, special business visas are also offered. However, the length of stay for business travelers who get this type of visa will depend on the agreement that will be met upon after the person consults the Australian visa office. Business visa are usually valid for up to 5 years. There are also temporary visas for those who wish to go to Australia to do some special activities like sporting competitions, entertainment performances, or temporary short-stay company assignments. Those wishing to be granted temporary residence visas in this country however need to be sponsored by an Australian company or organization. Those who get temporary residence visas need to remember that the exact length of the stay indicated on the document needs to be strictly complied, and when the visa expires and you still need to stay quite longer, then you are advised to immediately consult with the country’s Department of Immigration and Multicultural affairs office. Failure to do so will incur the person a hefty fine, along with the imposition of other penalties.

By: Jo Alelsto

About the Author:

As a result of yet another ill-timed law passed by Cristina Kirchner’s government, travelers visiting from Canada, the US and Australia are now required to pay a tourist tax upon arrival in Argentina. The law went into effect late in December, 2009, and has raised grave concerns from the Argentinean tourist industry, already reeling from the effects of the last recession.

US citizens are asked to pay 138 USD for the right of entry. Although the fee is collected once during the lifetime of your passport, this isn’t a visa, and it isn’t clear how it is tracked by Argentinean authorities. Meanwhile, Canadians will be the hardest hit, since they have to forfeit seventy US dollars each time they disembark in Argentina. Australians are bilked for 100 USD. The amounts can be paid in US currency or the equivalent in Argentinean pesos. Note that this new tax is in addition to the departure tax you have to pay upon leaving. If you have dual Argentinean citizenship, then you’re exempt from paying the new tax.

The explanation given by the government for this new policy is that it’s an act of reciprocity for the costly and complicated process imposed on their own citizens when they apply for a visa to one of the three countries. Brazil was one of the first to impose reciprocity several years ago, although I should point-out that what you get is a real via, good for five years. It’s absolutely true that Argentineans are discriminated against by several economically rich countries, and the fees they’re charged for their application isn’t refunded if it’s refused. I agree this is unjust, but on the other hand, before the 2001 economic meltdown in Argentina, visas weren’t required of them – this changed when the flow of illegal immigrants from Argentina became an exodus of millions.

The real concern here isn’t whether this policy is justified, but what effect it will have on the already battered economy, where tourism is one of the most important sources of growth and foreign income. If you read the postings on this subject in online forums, you get a definite sense that the sector will take a big hit, judging from the virulent reactions of would be travelers to Argentina. If an American family of four was planning to go to Buenos Aires for a once in a lifetime vacation, they might reconsider upon discovering that their tab just went up by 552 dollars.

This tax will also have a negative impact on neighboring countries, particularly Uruguay. Many combine their visit to Uruguay with Argentina, typically landing in Buenos Aires, then traveling by Buquebus to Colonia or Montevideo. If you’re a Canadian, are you going to visit any neighboring countries knowing that you’ll be tagged for yet another 70 dollars upon returning to Argentina? The same problem arises for Canadians living in Argentina who have to renew their 3 month tourist visa, typically by crossing over to Uruguay for a brief visit. That, my friends is at least 280 dollars a year!

Currently, the tax is only collected in Ezeiza airport (Buenos Aires), probably because they haven’t fully worked-out the logistics of collecting the fees country-wide, but their plan is to extend it to all entry points, be it by land, air or water. The Kirchner administration predicts it will collect forty million dollars a year from this tax, but that is probably very optimistic in view of the dampening effect it will have. More importantly, the tourism industry will lose ten times that, thus making it a net tax revenue loss.

The Kirchners are almost guaranteed to be voted-out in the next presidential elections, so we can only hope that the next government repeals this law.

By: Tom Germain

About the Author:

According to the 2005 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, Australia is the best place in the world to live! That’s probably why so many people dream of starting a new life down under and apply for immigration to the Australian authorities annually.

The desirability of Australia stems from so many factors – it is a country where the quality of life achievable is very high, the employment prospects are plentiful, the education available is world class and the health care facilities are very good – but to achieve permanent residence status in Australia can be very tricky because the amount of competition for the limited number of visas granted each year is intense.

Those who are serious about starting a new life down under in Australia have a number of ways they can apply for residency.

Those who have a specific skill set that is in demand in Australia can apply for immigration for their entire family via the Skilled Visa Program. Ironically, despite the fact that demand for visas to live, study and work in Australia is so intense, in 2004 not enough people applied for immigration under this particular scheme!

Those who are initially put off at the thought of having to prove their background experience in a given profession and demonstrate their skills should actually take confidence in the fact that if they genuinely DO have the skills they say they do and their profession appears on the Skilled Program list of in-demand skills, they stand an excellent chance of acceptance if they just apply yourself to the immigration process associated with this visa type.

People who find the thought of having to fill in a million forms and attend lots of interviews to be accepted for immigration frightening need to prepare themselves, because whichever program you apply under you will be subjected to a series of interviews, you will have to fill in a plethora of paperwork but the end result, if you’re granted a visa, will be so well worth it.

Cities like Sydney and Melbourne in Australia are some of the most exciting, interesting and fun cities in the whole world. The lifestyle is laid back and informal and yet the cities are sophisticated and chic. If you’re serious about wanting to start a new life in Australia, taking a trip to Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane, Perth or Cairns will only make your desire even more intense. Australia is a country blessed with fine weather, fun people and of course a stunning and diverse natural landscape.

If you already have family living in Australia you could apply for a visa to reside in Australia permanently via the Partner, Child, Parent or Other Family Migration schemes. Other alternatives are available for those who already have a business they wish to relocate to Australia or those who intend to establish a business down under and employ local people. Refugees have a special visa type they can apply for and the final option available to anyone with plenty of money is to invest a fixed sum into a bank in Australia for a given period of time.

Whichever method suits your personal circumstances best, make sure you do everything within your power to make your dream of a new life down under come true. Seeing as Australia has been voted the best place in the world to live, demand for residency is only likely to intensify as we all move to Australia to get the best quality of life possible!

By: Rhiannon Williamson

About the Author:

Many people are planning to travel to Russia this summer and will need a tourist visa. Russia requires tourist visas from American travelers just like the US requires Russians to have American visas. So how do you get a Russian visa? How much does it cost and how long does it take to get one?

Getting a visa to Russia is not so difficult and is not too expensive. The easiest way is to contact one of Russian visa agencies which will take your passport, one photo and $200 or so and get you a Russian visa within 2 weeks. If you would like to save $30 you can apply on your own, but I would not recommend it. Why waste your nerves and time for saving just few bucks?

However, if you want to do it on your own (for whatever reason), here is a quick guide to how to apply for a Russian visa by yourself. Get your visa application package assembled. It should include: your passport, one passport size photo, visa invitation (you can purchase one for $30 online), visa application, and two money orders for $150 and $30. The first is the price of tourist visa itself and the latter is the price for FedEx service. Mail this package to the nearest Russian Consulate (New York, San Francisco or Washington DC) and wait for 2 weeks.

The good news is that whenever you apply for a Russian visa, you will almost certainly get it. It is very rare that Americans are denied Russian tourist visas, especially if you are going to Russia for the first time. It is much more difficult for Russian to get tourist visas to America.

Remember, its best to start a visa process at least 2 months before your departure date, to ensure that if you have forgotten something, you can resubmit your application. Also, don’t forget that if you are getting a Russian visa on your own, you should ask your hotel or a host in Russia to prepare arrival registration. You don’t want to be arrested by police for violation of visa rules and trust me, the police will be able to see you in the crowd, unless you leave your sneakers at home.

By: Slava Shirokov

About the Author:

Could there be any other better place than Australia if you are eagerly looking for settling down at a well known destination and beginning a new lease of life?

With a strong economy and scenic landscaping, Australia could be Paradise on Earth for you.

However, before embarking upon the necessary formalities, let us briefly evaluate the benefits of becoming a permanent resident of Australia.

1. As a permanent resident, you will be given a permanent visa. This entitles you to the right to live in Australia indefinitely. You can enjoy the facilities of unlimited travel to and from Australia once you become a permanent resident. However, initially the permanent visa is given for a period of five years and has to be applied again from either outside Australia or from within the country.

2. On procuring permanent residentship, you also enjoy unlimited freedom to pursue the course of study that you prefer. Permanent residents have various options to choose when it comes to University education. There are certain education loans that are available only to permanent residents. These loans are extremely helpful in managing your financial crisis that may arise due to the additional expenses associated with your study.

3. The next important aspect of permanent residence is the aspect of work permit. Permanent residents can work for any employer in any occupation. But, working in the Public Service or Armed forces is strictly restricted to the Australian Citizens. This, however, does not distinguish the industrial laws between the permanent residents and citizens. Permanent residents enjoy the same benefits under these laws as the citizens. They can become a part of trade unions and can claim worker’s compensation.

4. As regards social security, the permanent residents must hold on for a period of two years before they are entitled to receive social security benefits like sickness, unemployment and student benefits that are offered by Australia’s Social Security Department.

5. A very important benefit that the permanent residents will enjoy is the health care entitlement. As a permanent resident of Australia, you will enjoy the privilege of health insurance scheme run by the government called Medicare. Under Medicare, you could receive free treatment at a public hospital and subsidized medicine.

6. Permanent residents can also sponsor their relatives for acquisition of permanent residence. But this is possible only after the applicant meets certain residence and support assurance pre-requisites.

7. Children of permanent residents who are born in Australia are deemed Australian citizens by birth. This will be one great advantage because they will enjoy the maximum benefits in the field of education and health care.

8. Permanent residents have the right to take up some professions in Australia like that of a migration agent or any government position.

9. The permanent resident of Australia is also granted the right to travel to New Zealand and apply for a New Zealand Visa. This is a provision that has been granted by the government of New Zealand.

So go ahead and start nurturing your dream of making Australia your permanent home.

By: Mira Flomin

About the Author:
